JESUS IS KNOCKING
In Revelation chapter 3, John recorded these wordsof the Lord Jesus: "Behold I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come into him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (v. 20). Dear friends and brethren, Jesus is always knocking on the door of our hearts. He earnestly desires that all open and let Him in. Remember, when Jesus knocks on the door of our hearts, the door knob is on our side of the door; He does not force Himself int

SOLDIERS WHO LIVE IN PEACE
Everything about God's kingdom is for and because of Jesus Christ. Many may wonder why Christians herald this message to the ends of the earth. To answer, God's Word declares that the kingdom of God also belongs to Jesus; it's His kingdom, and it is spiritual in nature. Before Pilate, Jesus said, "...my kingdom is not of this world, if my kingdom were of this world then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but not my kingdom is not from hence"

WAIT UPON THE LORD
Let's face it, we are in a hurry. We live in a fast-paced society in which instant gratification is expected. I suppose there is not anything wrong with fast food joints and express service on our vehicles and the such like. However, this hurry-up-and-go mentality can easily affect God's children if we are not exceedingly careful. David lived in a much slower world, and his life was a blessed one. However, by no means was it always easy. David struggled - and he struggled som

THE WORLD OR CHRIST: WHAT SHALL IT BE?
Compared to most of the world, America is still a very religious nation, and I am referring to Bible-claiming religious people. Yes, there are still untold millions who claim to believe that the Bible is from God an that it is our absolute standard of authority. However, we still live in a very humanistic and worldly society. I would say the vast majority of Americans have decided to "go their own way," reminiscent of the days of the Judges when every person did that which wa

ARE WE LIVING UP TO THE NAME?
The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch of Syria (Acts 11:26) . When Paul was before King Agrippa, the Herodian leader noted that the apostle had almost convinced him to be a Christian (Acts 26:28) . The apostle Peter stated that suffering as a Christian brings glory to God (I Peter 4:16) . We can see from the Word of God that the greatest name we as followers of the Lord can wear is that of a Christian. After all, it is a divinely authorized designation for God

ARE YOU READY?
As time mercilessly marches on, the frailty and brevity of life are often on my mind. I moved back home to Jones County almost four years ago after living elsewhere for 32 years. Since that time, I have taken part in several funeral services. Also, I have lost numerous close friends and classmates. Also, just last year, I lost two "extra moms" I acquired in my childhood. My uncle and his sister passed away. My mother has lost several friends also. You may be thinking, "Steve,

SEEK GOD TODAY
One of the greatest blessings in this life is the opportunity to know God. We must ever be mindful of what a great privilege it is to have access to Him through Christ (John 14:6) . Now, think with me for a moment. Can you imagine how terrible it would be if God had hidden Himself from us, if He had concealed His identity from us? What if it were our lot in life to live our existence separated from Him? Miserable, indeed. Thankfully, we can know our heavenly Father and be sa

BE CAREFUL WITH THOSE PLANS
I do not know about you, but sometimes I get to thinking about how strange and perplexing this old life can be. I have often found myself looking back and thinking about all the people who have come and gone in my life - men and women, boys and girls. There are many reasons why people come and go. One thing is certain, though - life is not certain; it is constantly changing. Yes, I am aware that the apostle Paul taught us to be forward looking, and I agree; that's a Holy-Spir

WHERE IS GOD IN MY BROKENNESS?
As we all know very well Christians are not immune from grief, sadness an sorrow. Even Jesus experienced these very human emotions. While the world struggles to find answers and coping mechanisms, members of the Lord's church have these things at their very fingertips. Truth is, we don't always utilize them properly, but God has provided numerous means by which we may cope with the sorrows and anxieties of this life. We must be reminded that the Bible is not without instructi

A FEW THOUGHTS ON THE BOOK OF REVELATION
The book of Revelation has bewildered Christians and critics alike for nearly 2,000 year, and with good reason. It is a book of highly figurative and symbolic language, written to the seven churches of Asia. The nature of the text lends itself to gross misinterpretations. The book must be interpreted in light of other Scripture, not the other way around. Also, when interpreting Revelation, it is vitally important to do so with first-century glasses, as we must strive to under

JESUS: CAN'T DO WITHOUT HIM
We as Christians, faithful members of God's church, live in the midst of turmoil and trouble. As we well know, the world and our nation are filled with wickedness of every sort. Consequently, we cannot afford to forget that the devil is active, and that he will never give up trying to destroy the Lord's church. Unfortunately, we have often seen in the lives of our brothers and sisters in the Lord - and perhaps even our own lives - how that sin can enter into the heart of a Ch
