WAIT UPON THE LORD

Let's face it, we are in a hurry. We live in a fast-paced society in which instant gratification is expected. I suppose there is not anything wrong with fast food joints and express service on our vehicles and the such like. However, this hurry-up-and-go mentality can easily affect God's children if we are not exceedingly careful.

David lived in a much slower world, and his life was a blessed one. However, by no means was it always easy. David struggled - and he struggled some more. His reign as king was riddled with troubles, bad decisions and heartache. However, despite his weaknesses, David understood God. The mighty king of Israel, the son of Jesse, knew when to slow down, and turn it all over to God, for the most part at least.

In Psalm 40, the man after God's own heart dispensed some weighty advice. Notice his words: "I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feed upon a rock, and established my goings. (verse 3).

A word that comes to my mind when thinking about our often frantic lifestyle is "frazzled. Some days we are absolutely frazzled. But also, we often feel like we are at the end of the ol' proverbial rope. Life is brutal, but we must slow down and wait upon the Lord, just like David did. You see, David took his stress and sorrows to the Lord. Do we? David continued believing, hoping, and praying. Now what about us? Dear Christian, wait for Him.
