So, what is the kingdom of God really like? Well, before we can answer that question, we need to be reminded that everything about God's kingdom is for and because of Jesus Christ, His Son. Without His miraculous incarnation, perfect life, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and coronation, there would be no New Covenant kingdom of God.
First up, the kingdom belongs to Christ; it is His, and it is a spiritual kingdom. Jesus said before Pilate, "My kingdom is not of this world. . ." (John 18:36a). The kingdom of God is a spiritual body made up of human beings who have obeyed the Gospel of Christ. It never was intended to be a political, economic, or military kingdom, as many of our sectarian friends suppose.
Also, the kingdom of Christ - composed of the called out ones - is a peaceable kingdom. Before Pilate, our Lord stated His followers would not be engaged in physical warfare with the enemies of God. The New Testament also declares that the inhabitants of the kingdom would not be characterized by brutal emotional warfare among other citizens (Christians). The apostle Paul tells us that the kingdom of God is not about food and drink and getting our way, "but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit" (Romans 14:17). Paul further wrote that God's people must be humble, serving the needs of other Christians and not fixating on our own (Philippians 2:1-5).
So, what's the kingdom of God like". It's all about Jesus - obeying His Word and following Him.
